The Star Detective Agency was founded over 75 years ago and is now the 4th largest African American, family owned business in Chicago. This state-of-the art building will house a training center and corporate headquarters. Elegantly detailed, exposed structural steel and the use of Mankato Limestone and brick provide visual interest and will enhance the impact of architecture in the community. Afrocentric artwork was utilized to reflect the ethnic heritage of the owners and the community. The color and material palette was derived from the owner’s artwork and the African cultural icons. Major materials include: exposed structural steel, wood deck, Mankato Limestone, brick, slate flooring, maple wood trim and furniture, and zinc roof panels. Indirect lighting in the training room is designed to highlight the wood deck and create a glowing, symbolic beacon for the community.
